Background of DOPP
Daakye Oil Palm Plantations Limited (DOPP) is an autonomous Agro CSR company operating as a social enterprise. DOPP is mainly located in the Prestea Huni Valley and Wassa Amenfi East Municipalities of the Western Region of Ghana with currently six satellite Out-grower Oil Palm Plantations projects. Its head office is at Chujah which is about 3km from Bogoso the Municipal capital of Prestea Huni Valley Municipality. In addition to its head office, DOPP has six satellite Out-grower-based offices dotted across Prestea Huni Valley and Wasa Amenfi East Municipalities.
History
DOPP was initially established as the Golden Star Oil Palm Plantation – GSOPP (A subsidiary of Golden Star Resources) to provide services to the Bogoso Prestea Mine (BPM) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility driven Alternative Livelihood Programme (ALP) developed in partnership between the mining company and the traditional authorities of its host local communities.
On July 27, 2020, Golden Star Resources sold its interest in Bogoso Gold Holdings, the owner of Bogoso-Prestea Limited through a Share Purchase and Sale Agreement to Future Global Resources (FGR).
This transaction resulted in a decision by the stakeholders of the Oil Palm Plantations funded by the previous Golden Star Bogoso Prestea Limited’s $1 per Oz to opt out of the technical and managerial support of GSOPP and to form, register and incorporate a new corporate vehicle which is now DOPP.
Though it was instituted in partnership with Bogoso Prestea Mine, DOPP is and remains autonomous under the laws of Ghana. However, DOPP will remain entitled to the continuous management of the US$1 per Oz smallholder Oil Palm plantations to improve the social license of Future Global Resources Bogoso Prestea Mine, and also the establishment and maintenance of the Oil Palm rehabilitation projects to address aspects of the environmental liability of Future Global Resources Bogoso Prestea Mine.
A New Beginning and A Sustainable Future Daakye is an Akan name that means future. During the stakeholder consultation process in the period of the transition, the Traditional Authorities and Farmers of the Oil Palm Plantations agreed to settle on the name “ Daakye Oil Palm Plantation”.
